Laugharne Castle 30th/31st August

The Lord answered our prayers, for the weather was kind to us for both days. All our company was kept very busy  and a goodly number of  folk  were happy to join in our jovial and carefree way these two days.

Our company was good in number despite some being absent. We were  missing our Captain,  James Edward Pymm,  so our Sergeant of Arms,  Master Jonathan Oakley Ward , had to stand in, God save us. The first day our troop o f misshapes performed drill (well a form of drill) which to be fair to Master Jonathan was not a total disaster. What was a disaster was my musket going fizz instead of bang, meaning the musket ball would have just rolled out of the barrel and plopped on the ground. The crowd thought this was highly amusing and bayed and cheered. For some of those that did bay and cheer justice came later in the form of a public execution.

The Sutlers  picked up on their passage from Kidwelly a waif in the form of Mistress Lydia. She proved useful in the cook house and was far more pleasing to the eye than our normal flag bearer , Nathaniel .

There was much interest in the Spinster and her companion who were spinning and working the loom. Other members that were kept busy were Master Phil our Dragoon and his accomplice Mistress Sian showing their knowledge of the swords, the armourer with explanations on the making of musket halls and different barrel gauges and of course we fletchers were kept busy at the archery, with many a prospective archer trying their hand with a longbow. Well lo and behold our Sergeant of Arms, whilst shooting one of our bows, shot a conker off a tree. He told us it was William the Conker who was riding past on a horse which was a Chestnut of course.

Many  folk  joined us on the second day with a lot of peculiar box flashing which we were told might  capture our souls and cause them to be put into print in a well circulated document.

Towards the end of the day word reached us that our presence was needed back at Tretower Court as quickly as possible so we are off to Tretower to arrive on the 13th/14th September.
